BAMPAD - The Empowered Pad

Bampad is a revolutionary and sustainable menstrual pad made from bamboo fiber. Bampad is organic, biodegradable, and hypoallergenic, making it the perfect pad for girls and women of the modern world. THE PROBLEM:

Traditional pads are 90% plastic, so it takes thousands of years to decompose. Plus, they are made from pesticide-ridden cotton or rayon, and are processed using nasty chemicals and chlorine bleach. Then, those same chemicals and toxic byproducts get rubbed up against a woman's most absorbent part of her body - the vagina and vulva! 

Women need period products, but isn't it about time we find alternatives that are not only better for our body, but are also better for our Earth?

Another huge problem in feminine hygiene is what’s called Period Poverty - the inability to afford period products, causing many girls and women across the U.S. and beyond to rely on unhygienic materials like rags, toilet paper, or even newspaper. Period Poverty is so prevalent that one study reported that 1 in 5 girls in the U.S. have missed school due to a lack of period protection.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Global Sanitary Napkin Market exceeds $20.5 billion, and is infiltrated by period products that have a major negative impact both on women's health and our environment. We have an opportunity here to create something transformative and revolutionary, and Bampad is the alternative we've been looking for all along.

We are targeting younger girls and women in high school and college - Gen Z -  who care deeply about the environment and charitable causes. It helps that their preferred period product is the pad. But don't worry, Bampad is great for people of all ages, even if you don't fit this demographic ;-).

THE FUNDING

We can't do it without your help. As feminine hygiene products are considered medical devices by the FDA, we need a large chunk of change in order to get Bampad to market. When we factor in our first order, packaging, and shipping, the costs add up quickly! We also want to ensure high quality, organic bamboo, so we need capital in order to make it happen. With you contribution, we can launch Bampad with confidence and make an even greater impact, faster!

THE TEAM: 

Becca Berelson is our fearless Founder and CEO. As a graduate of UC Berkeley and with a background in environmental advocacy and women's health, she is passionate about creating sustainable, non-toxic, and equitable periods for girls and women everywhere.

Chaitanya Hiremath is our Co-Founder and CBO with over 10 years of experience in business and management. Born and raised in India, Chaitanya has seen first hand how period poverty prevents girls and women from accessing a life of freedom and equal opportunity. He is excited to have the opportunity to help combat this problem locally and abroad.

Maylin Murdock is our Head of Research and Development. With a degree in BioTech and Tech Management from UC Davis, she is passionate about providing the understanding needed to move forward with radical innovations in the fields of biotechnology and women’s health.

THE MISSION:

Bampad's mission is all about empowerment! We want girls and women to feel empowered to ditch period stigma and shame, to choose non-toxic and sustainable period products, and to support equal and equitable access to period care.
