All The Unexpected

All The Unexpected is a web destination focused on providing education about family wellness, parenting and maternal health. The core of our focus is premature birth. In the United States black mothers are over 2.5 times more likely to die in childbirth and their infants are also overrepresented in preterm birth rates as well. Through education about prenatal care, postpartum wellness and the historical legacy of racism in medical care we can provide families with the tools to change these outcomes.

ATU features a podcast, research sources, documentary films, healthy living resources and news articles. All in an effort to educate both families and providers about the types of care that are needed. It is innovative in its whole-life approach to care; not only addressing the time when families are expecting but also giving them the tools to continue to live well as their children grow. The website will feature multilingual content in the future and the film resources are available to any organization or institution to screen free of charge in an effort to make the information accessible to all regardless of location or economic status. 

We are launching this fundraising campaign in an effort to offset the costs of the following:

• The expansion of the documentary film production schedule to a monthly output of 2 films.
• The expansion of the website content to 4 key languages.
  English, Spanish, French and Arabic. 
• To supplement the marketing budget in an effort to reach the goal of 10k total podcast downloads (Currently 2.5k) and to increase subscriptions by at least 10x.
• The physical completion of the production studio including an additional editing station, music composition equipment and digital editing software.

• All The Unexpected Founder Kimberly Reyes is a veteran educator, historian and trained political scientist. She has nearly 2 decades of experience in early childhood and primary education. Fluent in 4 languages, her parenting and educational philosophies pull from both Eastern and Western traditions. She is a mother of a toddler born at 26 weeks, speaking often on the NICU experience and other challenges facing parents whose journey has been anything but ordinary. She brings a unique perspective to the topics as both parent and scholar, helping to synthesize the organization's mission of helping families and educating providers.
