Active Joy was created in response to a fashion industry that thrives on being wasteful.
Our founder Agi was an activewear buyer when she took a break from her career to go traveling. When she returned, she wanted to incorporate the ethos pioneered by the outdoor brands in her backpack into her everyday city life: life is an adventure, carry the least weight possible, and leave the people and places you meet better than how you found them.
Active Joy is a sustainable athleisure brand for women, by women, that seeks to meet the demands of your busy and active life. From errands to work, working out to hanging out, we've got you covered without overflowing your closet.
We are launching with a signature item that will be the foundation of our future collections: a reversible performance legging.
At Active Joy we are committed to the triple-bottom-line. This means that we measure success not only by profit, but also equally by our positive impact on people and the planet. We only partner with businesses that we believe in, such as environmental trailblazers and female solopreneurs.
Recycled yarns
The main body fabric for our signature legging is made from 41% recycled polyester, 41% recycled nylon and 18% spandex.
We are excited to partner with the REPREVE® brand, our certified source for recycled yarns.
Because REPREVE is made from recycled materials, including plastic bottles, it helps conserve precious natural resources. Making REPREVE uses less petroleum and emits fewer greenhouse gases, so it helps us lighten our impact on the planet.

The mill that knits our main body fabric continuously invests in greener processes, saving on energy, water and chemicals.
Printing
Our fabric is printed using a method that is waterless, saving on natural resources.
Shipping
Because we source most of our materials in the USA and manufacture in our home state of New York, our goods save on the impact of long-distance shipping.
We have opted out of using fit models in favor of real-life testing on women with different body types. We edited the pattern six times to achieve the most comfortable fit we can.
The waistband is high for comfort.
The 7/8 length works well on various heights.

I am a collector of experiences, conscious consumer, intersectional feminist and life-long retailer.
I spent my whole career working in fashion. I have loved fashion as a form of self expression from when I was a preteen spending Saturdays at the mall to when I was a buyer for a multi-billion-dollar retailer. Of course I had a closet overflowing with clothes, it came with the territory.
In 2016, I took a break from my career to go traveling. Not only did I meet amazing people and see amazing places, but I also learned to live out of a 50-liter backpack.
Today I am back in the USA and on a mission to bring those two worlds together. Minimalism + the demands of modern life. People and places + the things we buy.
I get asked all the time: Why activewear? I was the kid that got picked last in gym class, but I have been on journey with being active ever since. I found community through dancing with my local theater company, confidence through learning how to rock climb, increased my fitness through running, and boosted my mental health through hiking. I want to celebrate women who are on their own journey of taking ownership of their health and wellness and living life to the fullest.
Risks and challenges:
With any product manufacturing there is the possibility of unforeseen obstacles or delays. If there are any delays, you will be the first to know as we want to be as transparent in our production as possible.
Due to nature of crowdfunding, we are unable to accept returns. If the garment doesn’t fit as desired, we will be happy to exchange for another size if available.
