Help us eliminate the use of plastic shopping bags by replacing them with a compostable bag we buy for our vendors to use!
Project Description
The 12 South Farmers Market is a producer-only seasonal market held on Tuesdays from May to October in Sevier Park, located in Nashville, TN. Our mission is to bring the best farmers, ranchers, and creative food artisans to our neighborhood and the surrounding community while supporting and encouraging a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. We welcome 36-40 Middle TN vendors each market season. We also host festivals, live music, contests, cooking classes, and chef demos.
Following our mission, we have slowly incorporated environmentally friendly practices at the market including recycling and a compost center. This year our goal is to eliminate the use of single-use plastic shopping bags. Single use plastic bags take hundreds of years to break down, if at all. They litter our streets, playgrounds, and oceans. We hope to shed more light on this problem by being a part of the change. We believe using a compostable plant based shopping bag is a positive step in the change.
Nashville’s mayor, Megan Berry, is committed to making our city “the greenest city in the Southeast”. We believe our green initiative to eliminate plastic shopping bags is just one way we can support our mayor and improve our city!
Instead of asking our vendors to purchase these bags, which would be an increased cost for them, we want to purchase the bags and eliminate the cost for them. Our ifundwomen project is to raise funds to purchase compostable shopping bags for our vendors to use at no cost to them. Keeping costs down for our farmers, ranchers, and creative food artisans is very important to us. Please consider making a donation, large or small, to help us launch this project! Our 12SFM farmers are the BEST of the BEST. Here is a chance to try out a CSA box and support a great project at the market. Supporter will need to be able to pick up box at 12SFM between May 2 & October 31. We cannot ship this option.
Our popular Kids Cook classes fill up quickly so here's a chance to get a spot before the sign-ups begin! The classes are held at the 12SFM (Tuesdays in Sevier Park) in June & July from 5-6:30pm. The child must be between the ages of 8-12 yrs old. Parents are asked to remain at the market for the duration of the class.
Come spend the afternoon with us promoting your business to our 12SFM shoppers. This is not a sales opportunity unless you make the products you want to sell as we are a producer only market. This comes with no printed materials option; only social media shout out. You are responsible for bringing your own tables, tent, and materials. We are a rain or shine market too!
Our special event markets are highly anticipated festivals focused on celebrating local food with lots of fun for all ages. This year's special event markets are 5/2, 6/27, 8/1, 9/19, and 10/31! Supporter will receive a special pass to enter the parking lot and staff will assist with reserved spot!
Parking is in high demand all over 12South and on market day it is tough to find a spot sometimes! This reward gives you special access to a reserved spot just for you! Supporter will receive a special pass to enter the parking lot and staff will assist you to your reserved spot!
