Project Description
The Purple Kitty creates a safe gathering space and marketplace for its community of Sister Keepers; helping women of color manifest their purpose and support each other through authentic connections online and in real life.
Women of color are starting businesses at an astonishing 4.5 times the rate of all businesses, yet black women are generating average revenues of $24k compared to the $143k made by non-black women owned businesses. Our biggest issues when it comes to entrepreneurship are the lack of funding, mentorship and representation.
The Purple Kitty helps women find their purpose, create community, and encourage wellness in the building of their businesses by:
1. Creating an online marketplace highlighting member goods that helps generate revenue
Yes...I do skate around the house sometimes. Ha!
2. Hosting webinars/workshops developing the mind, body, and spirit
3. Providing networking opportunities among members through co-working and events
Why Crowdfund?
We are seeking funding to assist with equipping and maintaining the beta space to house The Purple Kitty's co-working kittens as well as to hold space for intimate events be it for self-care, healing, or celebrating our sisters. This includes expenses from rent, printing, and marketing, to furniture and fixtures. Funding will also benefit The Purple Kitty's other offerings with marketing and advertising costs and help us draw in more female experts to share their business and wellness skills through our workshops.
Contribute what you can! Not only are you funding The Purple Kitty, you are in turn supporting other black and brown, women owned businesses when purchasing one of our rewards.
In addition to raising funds, we are raising awareness of the space (both physical and cosmic) and shining a light on our Sister Keeper collabs, so please share our campaign and our story on social media, with your coworkers, family members, and friends.
About Marica Lowe, Founder of The Purple Kitty
After graduating with a BBA in Accounting in 2007, Marica Lowe, hit the ground running with a career in audit at one of the Big 4 accounting firms, later pursuing a career in financial reporting in the private sector. In 2018, Marica became the only black person (1 of 2 minorities) on the executive team as the VP, Finance at an obstacle course racing company. Doing all that she could to follow the instructions from the parentals to work hard, make a lot of money, and save, Marica had a yearning in her soul to give back to her community - Strong, Driven, Women of Color.
Over the last 2 years she has focused on understanding her purpose as an individual, relationally, and spiritually. Launching The Purple Kitty has allowed Marica to be a resource to her community providing space and information for individuals to THRIVE!!
