FertileGirl
FertileGirl is here to change the conversation about fertility and empower women to make healthy choices during the pre-pregnancy period.
Project Description
We hear plenty about what to expect when we’re expecting. But what about what to expect when we’re expecting...and expecting...and expecting?
FertileGirl founder Allison and her husband Jonathan think it’s time to start talking. After many rounds of medications, procedures, and negative pregnancy tests, they went back to basics. Allison focused on managing her stress, exercising more, and eating healthier, even making her own snack bars after researching the best nutrients for women trying to conceive. She also stopped shying away from the F word: fertility.
Allison shared her story with other women, heard their stories, and along the way, decided to turn her own journey into a company that encourages women to support each other, and to take control of what they can control during the pre-pregnancy period--their nutrition.
FertileGirl is committed to real talk, which is why we don’t shy away from telling you what is in our products and more importantly what’s not. They won’t replace prenatal vitamins or your doctor’s advice, but they are formulated with superfoods to give your body extra support. We’re focused on giving you the good stuff--plant-based protein, omega 3s, calcium, and iron while free from gluten, soy, and GMOs.
Allison and Jonathan’s story has a happy ending: they had twin boys in April of 2017. The FertileGirl story, however, is just beginning...and you’re a big part of it. Let’s commit to changing the conversation from isolating, confusing, and stressful to one that is hopeful, rewarding, and empowering.
When my husband and I got married, we couldn’t wait to start our family. After many months, our excitement gave way to anxiety. We filled our calendar with diagnostic tests, acupuncture sessions, and appointments for intrauterine insemination, and, finally, in-vitro fertilization And...nothing.
Technology and medication were failing my body and making me sick, so after a ton of research we tried something different: IVF coupled with a diet of plant-based protein, healthy fats, and superfoods. I even made my own snack bars to ensure I was getting all of the right nutrients that I needed. When my first pregnancy ended in early miscarriage, I was devastated—but somehow still hopeful.
Newly encouraged, I doubled down my efforts. I realized that I had to mother myself before I could mother my child. So I took long walks. I did yoga. I continued eating healthy. And I stopped treating fertility like a big secret and started talking--to friends, specialists anyone that would listen. When I did a third cycle of IVF, I got pregnant again—and this time, went on to have a healthy pregnancy. We had twin in April 2017, but I’m not done sharing my story. The technology available to help women conceive is amazing—but my body wasn’t receptive until I brought myself into balance. So I decided to help other women do the same, turning my story into a pre-pregnancy nutrition company that embraces the F word, no stigma.
Here’s the reality: one in eight couples struggle with conceiving a child, but you’d never know it—because no one talks about the different paths women take on their own pre-pregnancy journeys. FertileGirl is here to empower you to talk—not whisper—about fertility. It’s here to inspire diet and healthy lifestyle choices that support women during the pre-pregnancy period.
And if you need someone to share a bar (and a vent session) with, I’m here.
Allison describes herself as a fellow fertility sister. She’s worked with experts in fertility and nutrition to channel her personal fertility journey into a pre-pregnancy nutrition company that embraces the F word, no stigma. Allison’s prior work experience is in the financial services industry, working for seven years at J.P. Morgan’s Corporate & Investment Bank. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Science.

The Campaign FAQs
What is FertileGirl?
FertileGirl is a pre-pregnancy nutrition company empowering women to make healthy choices and doing our part to destigmatize the fertility conversation. We recently launched our first product, a superfood nutrition bar.
Why is your bar different?
Many conventional bars you’ll see out there on the shelves conflict with pre-pregnancy nutrition goals. They can often contain soy, which can have an effect on estrogen levels in the body. Most are also missing plant-based protein, healthy fats like omega 3s, and important pre-pregnancy nutrients like iron and calcium. FertileGirl bars are an easy, on-the-go snack that can help women achieve these nutrition goals. The bar is made from real food ingredients—you’ll find tons of nuts, seeds, as well as some “superfoods” like maca and goji.
What are the new products are you working on?
Our next line of products will help women obtain other critical pre-pregnancy nutrients like folate and Vitamin D.
Why are you doing a rewards-based crowdfunding campaign?
Since we launched our online community in January and the website and first product line in April, there’s been an outpouring of love and support. We received countless messages, emails, phone calls from those of you who wanted to help. Our iFundWomen campaign is a direct response to that reaction—an opportunity for our supporters to directly contribute to the funding of our second product line, a folate nutrition bar that has a delicious peanut butter flavor. Whether you decide to contribute $10 or $1,000, we are eternally grateful and welcome you with open arms to the FertileGirl family.
When will I receive my rewards?
All rewards will be shipped by the end of October 2017. Most will ship much sooner than that.
