Drones 4 Girls
Show girls they CAN fly.
Project Description
51 MILLION KIDS ATTEND PUBLIC SCHOOL IN AMERICA. MANY NEED TO BE BETTER EQUIPPED FOR JOBS OF THE FUTURE.
WE WILL START BY REACHING 2,000 KIDS IN DETROIT... USING DRONES
EXPOSURE
In the new year, DRONES 4 GIRLS will introduce kids and teachers to mini drones through classroom demonstrations. This may be an opportunity for many boys and girls to see an aerial drone for the first time. We will talk about the many career paths and industries that employ drones now-- farming, insurance, rescue, construction, wildlife research, etc.
DISCOVERY
DRONES 4 GIRLS will host a one-day bootcamp to equip teachers and professionals to be pilot leaders for youth learning about aeronautical drones. That education will help them decide if they want to sit for the Federal Aviation Administration's Part 107 exam to get a license to fly an unmanned aviation vehicle ($150).
LEARNING
DRONES 4 GIRLS will show up to 20 teachers how to fly a mini drone and plug real world applications into their class room. We believe that's a sustainable way to spread excitement about math and physics, for years to come.
GROWTH
DRONES 4 GIRLS will host a FREE four-hour event for girls attending grade 4 or 5 at a public school in Detroit. We will extend invitations at schools. Each invitee is encouraged to bring one friend-- same grade, any school. All 40 girls will learn to build, code and fly mini drones.
Massive "Thank you!" to Detroit Hives, Lo & Behold! and Excel RC for gifts they supplied. We appreciate you!

We are grateful for any amount you give and we have a Thank You gift for every single donor. When you include your street address, we'll send you a gift at no extra cost.
Teachers never get enough Thanks for what they do. We will provide brunch + instruction for two hours. We will teach the teachers to fly a mini drone using Arduino or SNAP block languages and using a remote control and using first person viewing (fpv) goggles. We will give teachers insight on how to integrate real world challenges into their curriculum.
Instruction will be held during Feb 18-22, 2019. Location TBD.
** This is only available for teachers at public schools in Detroit MI.
There are 72 public schools in Detroit that have a grade 4 or 5 class. You can support exposure to a relatively new commercial technology -- aerial drones-- for an entire class of those students. It's also a chance for a teacher to be inspired by new tech. You provide the funding that helps these students see skills required in the future. We provide awareness. In 30 minutes we will:
- Show several different sizes of aerial drones & different types of flight-- coded, remote controlled and FPV
- Share different examples of drone use-- agriculture, construction, insurance, rescue, health care, wildlife research, land mapping and aerial inspection
- Talk about advantages of drone use & skills required to be a good pilot
** This is only available for grade 4 or 5 at public schools in Detroit MI.
Have an FAA licensed drone pilot come to your property to conduct a video of commercial or residential property for 30 minutes. This is a great way to learn more about inspection / survey potential from first-hand experience with larger drones.
**This reward is only available within the City of Detroit.
