WHO WE ARE

Black Girls in Media is a professional networking organization + recruitment company for minority women in the media industry. We do this through events, an online membership, and partnering directly with companies to hire diverse talent directly from our community.

Our goal is to help get 100,000 Black women in the media field hired with corporate opportunities.

Hi, Im Tasha! TV Network social content creator currently living in Los Angeles and Founder of Black Girls in Media. In 2017, I Was Back In my Hometown— Post Grad-school, struggling to get hired in the media industry. “Why am I not getting hired?” I asked myself.  Having friends and family in different professional industries than me, I had no one to vent to, or assist me with these issues. I then began noting the extreme difficulty that women of color face breaking into the corporate world and gaining equal opportunity.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM:

In 2020, Black women’s unemployment rate was 10.9%, compared to 7.6% for white women and 8.3% for all women. This is no doubt reflective of the steep job losses and slow job recovery experienced by this group since early 2020, though even prior to the pandemic, their unemployment was still relatively high compared with other demographics. Our analysis found that this challenge is reflected throughout the overall Black corporate labor force. At Black Girls in Media, we make it a mission to get as many Black women hired within the media field as possible. For many educated Black women, the issue is not a lack of professional adequacy, but more-so a lack of exposure to corporate media opportunities. What's more, majority of Black women cite a lack of access to industry connections, adequate hiring of full time positions, and professional advancement.

Black Girls in Media is for minority women in the media industry who are actively searching to get hired or excel their careers. We have an online community of 80,000 women worldwide and growing.
 

HOW WE DO IT: 

Black Girls in Media solves the hiring gap problem by providing a holistic solution that: 1. Provides access to opportunities through corporate job pairing, recruitment events, and weekly industry job openings. 2. Provides tailored social media content on all the topics that actively searching media professionals need to know about- from how to tailor your resume, to how to make connections, to how to build your brand, and more. Our official membership program, drives a 20x higher career advancement route vs. going it alone. 3. Connections: BGIM provides our members with access to corporate industry connections, collaborators, valuable relationships, and a deeply connected community of Black women in the media industry, striving to excel together.
 

WHERE WE ARE HEADED:

This year, we started hosting an annual media conference for our community. This conference brings together trailblazing media speakers, corporate companies, and women looking to get hired all under one roof.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO: 

1. Produce more free, or affordable recruitment events.
2. Create scholarships and programs that positively impact the lives of Black women all over.
3. Get our resources and brand into the hands of more women and corporate organizations.
4. Grow and compensate our leadership team. 

Currently, we have a small, but growing team that consists of our founder, social media manager and partnerships coordinators.
