The Scrappy Elephant- A Creative Reuse Center

Why do we need the Scrappy Elephant? 

Charlottesville lacks places to shop for art supplies. Going to big box chain art supply stores can be overwhelming and hard on the wallet.   It can also be difficult for the environmentally conscious shopper who doesn't want all the packaging and waste that comes with shopping in big box stores. 

There are only a few places for the people of Charlottesville to drop in and create art and there no places in town that focus on reuse and sustainability through art and creativity.

With the climate in such dire crisis, we need more opportunities as consumers to help live more sustainably. 

Enter the Scrappy Elephant  

The Scrappy Elephant is a creative reuse center that fosters creativity and environmental awareness and is dedicated to promoting sustainability through art, education and community.  The founder of The Scrappy Elephant, Sarah Sweet is a born and raised Charlottesville community member and experienced art educator with a passion for helping everyone do their part to help the earth while spreading love through art and craft. 

The Scrappy Elephant provides three areas of service: 

a) The Scrappy Elephant Retail Store is is filled with reclaimed and reusable materials donated from businesses and individuals in and around the Charlottesville area - materials that would otherwise stay hidden in closets for decades or be sent to landfills. Whether you're a teacher, an artist, a crafter, a student, or a parent, you'll find supplies you need and supplies you never knew you needed. 

b) The Scrappy Elephant Studio is a place for artists and makers of all ages and abilities to drop in and be creative, take classes, and host parties using all the unique and reclaimed materials The Scrappy Elephant has to offer!

c)The Scrappy Elephant Green Gallery features local makers who are using reclaimed and reused materials in their craft. Stop by to find unique, local and sustainable art and crafts for yourself and for incredible gifts!

We need your help!

While we are already in collection mode and are planning some pop-up sales and creative reuse activities, we need a permanent home to make this center be truly helpful to the community.  We are seeking funding to help secure a brick and mortar space in order to house the Scrappy Elephant.   We are a community minded, earth friendly, creative reuse center that cannot operate without a permanent space. Please help us inspire creativity and foster environmental awareness in the Charlottesville community.
