PRISM DJs: Booking Agency Representing Women DJs
We are a DJ booking agency representing a diverse team of women DJs, while advocating for gender equality in the music industry.

Project Description

PRISM DJs' mission is to create a supportive network for women DJs and advocate for gender equality in the music industry.
Based on our independent research, women make up only 16% percent of the DJ industry. To help correct this gender imbalance, Tessa Young started PRISM DJs, a Los Angeles-based collective and booking agency. Our agency is a trusted source for clients to hire talented, vetted women DJs and create a supportive network.
With a network of 30 women possessing varied music specialties, the agency provides soundtracks for private parties, weddings, retail, brand, and corporate events. PRISM DJs have performed at United Nations Global Compact, Upfront Summit, FabFitFun, National Geographic, Amazon, City of Hope.
At this time, Founder Tessa Young is the sole person running the agency while facing numerous challenges due to the pandemic. This grant will help with the day-to-day operations and, most importantly, communications professionals to help better deliver our message and mission to support women DJs.
Being based in Los Angeles, California, "The Entertainment Capital of the World," the market and opportunity are almost limitless. Unfortunately, the pandemic has severely impacted our business as events and gatherings have been canceled for nearly two years. On a positive note, as of November 2021, we see events slowly returning, and we are getting our DJs back to work.
We thank our crowdfunding contributors in advance for your support. We also thank IFW for creating this amazing platform and the Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship for their support. We are so grateful to all of you!

ABOUT THE FOUNDER, TESSA YOUNG
With a deep love and vast knowledge of music, and a dedication to uplifting other women in the music industry, Tessa Young has carved out a niche for herself as both a DJ and an agent. She launched her career behind the decks at Wurstküche and The Viper Room over a decade ago and has played numerous venues, private parties, weddings, and corporate events. She has played TwitchCon's Broadcaster Royale Omen Challenge, and Vans Girls and Women skate events and provided the tunes for a wide range of clients, including the City of Hope and Too Faced Cosmetics. Early in her career, people often told Tessa that they had difficulty finding women who DJ. In response, she launched PRISM DJs as a full-service agency that pairs clients with women who will build soundtracks for parties, weddings, and events. PRISM DJs began in 2015 with four DJs. Today, Tessa works with an eclectic roster of 30 DJs whose specialties range from hip-hop to house to indie dance. Tessa works with potential clients to discern what music and atmosphere they envision for their events before pairing them with the perfect DJ—looking for house music with an upscale, lounge vibe? Need '90s throwbacks for a birthday party? She has someone in mind for you. Tessa and PRISM DJs are committed to uplifting the next generation of women DJs and have provided two scholarships for teenage girls to attend Camp Spinoff, where Tessa has volunteered in 2018 and 2019.
