Project Description

Hello my name is Latoya and I'm the owner of Royal Tag & Title Service and Her Majesty Driving Academy. Royal Tag & Title is a private, licensed and bonded auto tag distributor. We process auto procedures such as renewing license plate tags, distributing motor vehicle registrations, issuing duplicate titles and other basic auto duties. I'm also in the process of opening Her Majesty Driving Academy. My mission for this business is to help people in the neighborhood make their decisions easier and faster when purchasing a vehicle. Also help the new and low-income driving community strive for better young drivers.  I also offer notary Services to the public. The problem I am solving will help people in different areas get their car registration renewed without having to wait in a long line at MVA or have to make an appointment and wait 2weeks before going to see someone in person. I will also be a "one stop shop" where teenagers and parents can get everything done at once. I am unique because no one has thought of a title service and a driving school in one building in the state of MD.

I became a small business owner as a way to build and uplift the community. As a member of the African- American community, the juxtaposition among the socio-economic classes is the most profound. Some people did not have, those that were building for a better future and fully immersed in the American dream, and those that seemed to live the high life. I have always wanted to serve the community in a way that meets the foundational need of the community. My business is one of transportation. I assist the community in learning to drive and in finding vehicles and making sure that they are compliant with state vehicle registration, insurance compliance, and emissions. Reliable transportation allows for community members to find more permanent work, secure families, and prevent food deserts within communities. My place among the vast cast of characters is to help fortify and realize the next level on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. By serving the people, I will grow to my next level of financial security and options for the next generations.

There are several ways that my businesses will be able to assist in supporting and uplifting the community. One of the premier ways with a high impact is job creation and retention. I will be able to employ community members with living wages which could start a domino effect in one of the poorest cities in America. I will also assist with food drives, and clothing drives, and contribute support to local charity organizations to pay it forward in a manner consistent with the essence of this grant opportunity for my business. I also look forward to participating in the
chamber of commerce and connecting with other small business owners throughout the state. Another effect will be teaching the youth how to drive and be respectful of others. There is always room for improvement at the juncture of respect and self-discipline. A way to practice these important skills is to see them modeled as a teenage driver. When the teens observe and emulate other responsible and courteous drivers, the likelihood of them becoming that in the

future is high as well. We all could learn to be more patient on the highways so the instances of death by road rage find a downward trend. My business is owned and operated by a double minority: I am a woman and I am black which makes me a part of the fastest subset of entrepreneurs. I am honored to be among distinguished colleagues, but I am continuing to learn, grow, and evolve within my businesses and would love to interact with some of the mentors on the committee so that I can see the bigger picture as the next phase starts to elucidate. Many financial aid opportunities have a mentorship component and that is what I would like to leverage as well. I live by the adage that everyone and everything can teach you something.

The Campaign FAQs

1: How can all students learn significant driving content?

The project focuses on developing educational driving instructors to aid students in understanding MVA Learners Permit concepts that researchers have found are misunderstood as students reach ages 16-25. The project will also provide instructional tools to assist instructors in using these skills, and thus secondarily addresses MVA state requirements.

2. What do you mean what's the status of graduation after the class?

After students complete their behind the wheel hands on driving with an instructor and obtaining their learners permit along with 30 hours of classroom participation they can go to any MVA station and take their driving test.
